Chris Craft Barrelback 1940

At the beginning of 1940, most people feared becoming involved in a war. The economic situation was more bad than good. Many manufacturers were reluctant to rush into new products and investments. Chris Smith, owner of the Chris Craft factories, however, thought differently: future orientated!

In 1940, CHRIS CRAFT introduced a new boat shape called the "Barrel Deck" or "Barrel Back", which also broke the speed record for runabouts. Fifty years later, the BARREL BACK has become one of CHRIS CRAFT's most sought-after boat antiques. The elegance of the mahogany hull is still unrivalled today.

DUMAS has been offering the "Beauty" for a long time. The construction kit was completely revised in 2011. The use of foamed PVC panels in the bottom planking has reduced the weight and speeded up the construction time enormously. However, there is still no need to do without the original fine wood. The entire above-water area is covered with precious mahogany planks and then finished with a high-gloss lacquer coating. The seats are moulded from ABS and the many chrome fittings give the BARREL BACK its luxurious appearance. Discs, steering wheel, drive shaft and rudder are included in the kit. Of course, you do not have to do without the original lettering of the legendary CHRIS CRAFT BARREL BACK.

We recommend the installation of a high-quality drive system with a beautiful 3-blade brass propeller for RC operation. The model can be made to "fly" with a powerful brushless motor, please plan a water cooling system when building!
