This coastal tug from 1901 was built at the J:H Dialogue shipyard in New Jersay. The Lackawanna was 137 feet long and 25 feet wide, the narrow hull and the elegant appearance make the coastal tugboat look almost like a yacht. The ship was powered by a 950hp steam engine with two boilers. The owner, the Lackawanna and Western Railroad, mainly used the ship to tow coal barges along the New England coast. In 1915 the ship sank after a collision in a storm and was never raised.
Our model of course faithfully reproduces the beautiful lines of this classic tugboat.
The kit contains a two-part moulded ABS hull and all superstructures made of PVC hard foam which are already punched out. The deck is planked with real wood, beams and reinforcements are made of balsa and plywood - already finished and precisely laser cut. The Lackawanna is rich in details, some of which are included as cast metal parts (45 pieces). The 60 turned railing supports and the rudder are made of brass. Decoration and colour list are included!
The drive via a shaft can be direct drive or with a gearbox.
A very detailed step-by-step construction manual in German guides you through the entire construction process. Large overview plans and many detailed drawings help with every stage of construction. The model is quick and easy to build, a successful combination of plastic and real wood with many fine details!
The model is suitable for the installation of our steam generator and various special sound modules from our product range!
