African Queen 1:12 RC kit
Despite her insignificant appearance and small size, the African Queen is a ship that is etched in many people's memories. The African Queen became world famous when she played the main character in the film of the same name. The other main characters were Katharina Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart, who played an English missionary and a drunken engineer in the film adaptation of C.S. Forrester's novel. They were in Tanzania during the First World War. Whilst travelling on one of the rivers in the jungle, they go through many adventures together and the two unlikely characters fall in love. The film ends when the couple drift out onto Lake Victoria after a terrible storm, where they torpedo the German warship 'König Luise'. The ship explodes and sinks and the couple are rescued by an English ship, giving the story its intended 'happy ending'. The ship used for the Uganda location shots is from around 1910, and after an eventful life it ended up in Florida, USA. The current owner, Mr Jim Hendrich, has refurbished the ship and steam engine and uses it as a leisure boat.
In addition to the moulded plastic hull, the kit from Billing Boats also includes a detailed mock-up of a steam engine with an upright boiler. As a particular highlight, this is driven by a second electric motor, which simulates the illusion of a steam-powered model. Experienced modellers can perfect the impression by installing our steam engine sound module.
All wooden parts are precisely laser-cut. A large building plan sheet, building instructions and further illustrations, as well as all wooden, plastic and fitting parts required for assembly are included in the scope of delivery.
The instructions are available for download.
