The Mayflower - The ship of the Pilgrim Fathers
The Mayflower was a sailing ship on which the Pilgrim Fathers, many of whom came from central England, set sail for America to start a new life there.
Originally, the Mayflower was a cargo ship that was primarily intended to transport wine from France to England. However, in September 1620, 102 passengers and 31 crew on board the Mayflower left England to found a new settlement in America.
On 6 September 1620, the Mayflower set sail from Plymouth. Instead of the desired destination of Virginia, it reached Cape Cod, where the settlers disembarked on 11 November near today's Provincetown. The voyage of the Mayflower is the most prominent example of the colonisation of America by Europeans and is often misrepresented as its beginning. In fact, the colonisation of North America began in the mid-16th century with the settlement of Newfoundland. However, the Mayflower laid one of the foundations for the creation of the United States and therefore remains a highly symbolic ship and an important part of American history.
The completely newly designed kit from the Italian manufacturer Mantua combines a wealth of detail with a high degree of prefabrication thanks to state-of-the-art production methods. The 96-page building instructions with many pictures and drawings guide the modeller safely through the individual construction steps to the finished model.
The wooden parts are precisely laser-cut to enable exact assembly. The individual planks are already engraved on all decks. This creates the realistic impression of deck planking, as if the deck had been planked with individual moulding sections including calendering. The side panelling is also already engraved with many details. The fittings set included in the kit with blocks, maidens, coffin nails, rigging twine, lifeboat, barrels and anchors provides even more detail. Even wood stain and push pins are included.
