Product information "American Clipper Flying Cloud"

The Clipper ship type is of American origin and dates back to around 1820. It represents a milestone in the development of large sailing ships. Ships of this type were designed to meet the needs of American merchants, who quickly realised that their future lay in overseas trade. The American shipbuilders designed a completely new type of sailboat without following any models from the old world. Their success proved them right, and the global shipping industry experienced an unprecedented innovation. The Flying Cloud is the masterpiece of shipbuilder Donal McKay and was launched in East Boston in 1851. The Cloud earned its outstanding reputation during the "Gold Rush" in California, when it completed the journey from New York to San Francisco in a record time of 88 days and 22 1/2 hours. A record that has yet to be broken.

All parts of the kit are precisely prefabricated and consist exclusively of wood and metal. Building instructions are included.
