Hermione La Fayette

On 21 March 1780, the young Marquis de La Fayette embarked on board the Hermione bound for America to fight with the rebellious Americans for their independence. Two years earlier, construction of the Hermione had begun at the Rochefort shipyard near the royal ropeworks. With a length of over 65 metres, a weight of more than 1,200 tonnes and a sail area of 1,500 m² on 3 masts, the Hermione was built according to the drawings of the naval architect Chevillard I'Aine.

Some two centuries later, in 1997, under the auspices of the Hermione-La Fayette Association, work began on a faithful replica of this large sailing ship at the same site in Rochefort. In 2015, the Hermione will set sail for America on the same route as La Fayette to celebrate Franco-American friendship.

The kit contains all the necessary parts to build the model. All wooden parts are precisely prefabricated using the laser cut process. Planks must of course be customised.  All fitting parts are made entirely of metal and some are particularly detailed using the etching process and are clearly laid out in a sorting box. The sails are already sewn and a model stand is included.
 
The English step-by-step building instructions with many photos are included on a DVD. Also on CD are video instructions for several construction stages. There are no printed plans in the set!
