SANTA MARIA - Caravel
One of 3 ships with which Columbus discovered America. This model is part of the Columbus series from AMATI. All ships in the fleet, Santa Maria, Niña and the Pinta, are available as a kit in the same scale.
The Santa Maria was Columbus' flagship and is still one of the most famous ships in the history of seafaring. Columbus gave her the nickname "Nao", but in the early days she was called "La Gallega". Her owner Juan de la Cosa hired her out to Columbus for his voyage to the unknown world.
On 3 August 1492, Christopher Columbus' fleet of explorers, the Santa Maria, Pinta and Nina, set sail from the Spanish port of Palos to find the western sea route to India. On 12 October 1492, Columbus landed on the island of San Salvador.
The construction presented here is based on the Spanish government design of 1892 and later research. The construction plan is very detailed. The printed sails are particularly noteworthy. All frames, keel and other wooden parts have been cut out using laser technology for a precise fit. The fittings set is generously equipped. The decorations are made of gold-plated cast metal. Three building plan sheets with texts in four languages explain the assembly.
The kit contains a laser-cut keel, frames and deck parts. Wooden mouldings for planking are included in the kit along with other wooden and metal fittings, masts, sails and flags, original building instructions with many detailed drawings, German translation of the building instructions with parts list and 2 building plan sheets.
