NIÑA - Caravel
One of 3 ships with which Columbus discovered America. This model is part of the Columbus series by AMATI. All ships of the fleet, Santa Maria, Niña and Pinta, are available as a kit in the same scale.
There is not much contemporary documentation of the Niña and the Pinta. Except for some hidden references in Columbus' records. However, two things are known, they both belonged to the Pinzon family and were initially equipped with lateen sails. During the Pinta's first stop in the Canary Islands, the lateen sails were replaced by square sails. This, together with the replacement of the mast, delayed the voyage by 4 weeks. Columbus always referred to the Niña and the Pinta as the "Caravels". Then on 12 October 1492, Christopher Columbus, in the service of Spain, planted the Spanish flag on an island in a world unknown to Europe.
The kit contains a laser-cut keel, frames and deck parts. Wooden battens for planking are included with the Baustz along with other wood and metal fittings, masts, sails and flags, building instructions and plans.
