historic sailing ship H.M.S. Bellona
The original was one of the most famous warships of the 74-gun class ever owned by the British Navy. She was launched on 19 February 1760 and was in service for the British Admiralty for over 50 years, particularly against French ships of the same category. However, she also sailed frequently in the West Indies. In March 1780, the ship underwent a general overhaul and was fitted with copper planking. The glorious ship was finally scrapped in Chatham in February 1814.
The elaborate kit contains all the wooden parts ready sawn or milled out, a rich set of fittings with figures, cannons, blocks, steering wheels, anchors, gratings and much more. The windows and many other fittings are carefully etched from brass. The moulding material and rods for masts and yards are also included, as is a 14-page construction plan with many detailed sketches and detailed building instructions with a parts list, which makes it much easier to identify the many individual parts.
Sails are not included in this construction so as not to detract from the impressive appearance of the rigging, so the model remains in the harbour.
