H.M.S. Neptune construction kit
Battleship, armed with 58 cannons Outgoing 17th century
Against the background of numerous military conflicts with ships of the Dutch navy, warships began to be divided into classes towards the end of the 16th century; the same applied in particular to ships of the line, which were classified according to logical criteria based on their armour.
This impressive model of the NEPTUNE has been faithfully reproduced on the basis of representations and models from the former shipyard, which are preserved in the Greenwich Maritime Museum. It is a warship of the third rank (55/60 guns) that took part in the Battle of La Hougue on 2 June 1692: the English fleet under the command of Admiral Rooke inflicted a severe defeat on the French naval force under Admiral Tourville.
The ornate decoration of the NEPTUNE is typical of the royal ships of her time and, although somewhat more modest, is reminiscent of the impressive design of the famous admiral's ship "Prince".
Like many ships of the same era, the NEPTUNE also underwent fundamental modifications over the years: the original bowsprit mast disappeared, while a jib pole was added to the bowsprit. The poles for the booms and the yards for the topsails on the main topmasts were also added.
This model kit of the H.M.S. Neptune impresses with its extensive equipment in proven Corel quality. All the wooden parts are cleanly sawn out and the moulding material for the double planking is of excellent quality. The fittings set is equipped with the rich decorations that make this model a special piece. In addition to the large views, the building plan contains many detailed sketches, spread over 5 plan sheets, which are supplemented by the 4-language building instructions with parts list.
