Resolution construction kit
The model "H.M.S. RESOLUTION" represents an English warship, a cutter, from the first decades of the 18th century. When it first appeared around 1700 - probably as a modification of the Dutch "Bezsaan jacht" - the cutter's equipment was mainly characterised by a single mast with a large gaff sail, with gaff and boom, with jib and outer jib and often with one or more square sails for stern travel. They usually had a slender line, significant draught and, together with cutter equipment, combined excellent manoeuvrability with the best speed characteristics, even in narrow waters and rough seas. In view of these favourable characteristics, these cutters were not only used for the express transport of valuable or perishable goods, but were also used by the navy as patrol vessels. In Great Britain, these cutters were used towards the end of the seventeenth and beginning of the eighteenth century by the coastguard, but also by smugglers in armoured condition. The cutter equipment was used by the French during the Napoleonic wars, but was not very popular in Italy, where it was limited to Liguria and Tuscany, especially in the version with a second small mast at the stern for manoeuvring and with a mainsail without a mizzen.
COREL's 1:50 scale reconstruction is mainly based on a plan attributed to CHAPMAN. Where necessary, it has been completed and reworked according to iconographic sources, such as engravings and paintings of the time. Despite its low level of difficulty for less experienced hobbyists, this model has been reproduced very faithfully; the mast in particular is kept simple and the ship will find many enthusiasts due to its medium size.
