In 1609, Captain Hudson of the Halve Maen, who was in Dutch service, was sent in search of what was then thought to be the Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. Although he did not find this passage, he did find a large bay on the east coast of America, into which a river about 500 kilometres long flowed. The city of New Amsterdam, now New York, was founded at the mouth of this river in 1610 and the river became the Hudson River.
In addition to the large building plans with countless perspective drawings and the building instructions, the model kit contains almost all the wooden parts already sawn out, the small parts largely prefabricated and the fittings set with figurehead, lantern and flags.
