Schottel Antriebe
Schottel drives for model ships
A Schottel drive or rudder propeller is a modern and particularly powerful drive version. Especially for working ships (Tug), which must have a very high manoeuvrability. The propeller, which is mounted under the ship's bottom in a performance-enhancing cort nozzle, can be swivelled sideways and the water flow produced is thus used directly as a rudder. In conjunction with a powerful electric motor, high propulsion power is achieved, making the drive suitable for use in larger and heavier models. A powerful servo is inserted into a special holder for direct control. The swivel range of the drive is approx. 360°, depending on the servo. The swivel range is not mechanically limited. Reverse travel is achieved by changing the direction of rotation of the electric motor (via speed controller with polarity reversal) or by turning the nacelles.
